1. Maintenance

When you give a lot of money for your metal pet on wheels, you have to take care of it, and you need to do it properly. It’s not that hard to find a professional service or ask someone to help you out with maintenance, but the smartest thing would be to learn how to do it for yourself.

Learning about your bike, how bicycles work and how to keep it in its best possible condition is not that hard. The internet is full of great tutorials, videos and detailed explanations on how to take care of your two-wheeler. Learn as much as you can from your friends, other bikers you’ve met or mechanics you know. Don’t be afraid to get dirty and even mess something up, because, in the long run, it will help you maintain your bike in the best possible way.

2. Addiction

This one is a favorite in this list of 5 things no one told me about cycling, If you’ve ever talked to someone who is enthusiastic about cycling, then you know how addicting it can get. Quite a lot of people start biking for various reasons, but most of them are passionate bikers now. The very idea of enjoying time out in the countryside, on the open road, discovering beautiful new places while pedaling for miles is enough to get people hooked.

And it’s not just about the ride itself; it’s about your bike. When you invest a lot of time and money into your bike, it becomes a part of your persona. Especially when trying to keep it in its best state while also spending quite a lot of time riding it. Whether you like it or not, once you start devoting time and money on your bike, you’re bound to get addicted to that lifestyle.

And one of the things you should know before you set off is that you will probably need quite a lot of space to store all of that equipment.

5. Riding Uphill

Riding uphill is the toughest in the list of 5 things no one told me about cycling. That’s because one of the things almost everybody dislikes when it comes to biking is riding uphill. There are a large number of people who gave up cycling after they first faced an incline. It can be tough and tricky to learn how to ride your bike uphill, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Riding uphill is something you need to learn to do, and it comes with experience. So, instead of avoiding the hills on your way, go ahead and tackle the challenge head-on. The sooner you start to understand what you need to do, the sooner you’ll learn how to cycle uphill. Just keep trying, and remember – there’s nothing wrong with pushing your bike up a hill that is too challenging. After some training, you will be able to return and conquer it.
